Raclette
The cheese, the myth, the legend...
This
gooey cheese goodness has been melting for roughly 400 years. Legend
has it that sheep shepherds hailing from the French speaking Valais
region were sitting around their camp fire one night eating Raclette,
all the cheese and potatoes and pickles going all over the rocks that
surrounded the fire. Not wanting any of it's deliciousness to go to
waste, the shepherds scooped it up and thought
“omg, this totally rocks melted” (or something like that).
The melting of Raclette over rocks caught on with the other shepherds who probably thought
“Yeah this cheese tastes nice as it, but man does it smell awesome melted and scraped off the fire rocks!”Thats how the practice or Raclette was born, as the name ‘Raclette’ comes from the French word ‘racler’ meaning ‘to scrape’.
Whether you’re on the Alps on a skiing holiday, at your house with friends in the winter or herding sheep in the 19th century, Raclette is the perfect accompaniment to any cold weather!
Psst... try some of our other cheeses to spice up your next Raclette night!
