Chabichou du Poitou

Chabichou du Poitou
Description
Chabichou d’Antan is a traditional French goat’s cheese from the Poitou-Charentes region, where chèvre has been crafted for centuries. Its signature shape is the small, squat cylinder known as a “bonde,” said to be inspired by the corks used to seal wine barrels. Beneath its delicate, wrinkled rind lies a dense yet creamy interior, offering a perfect balance of tangy freshness, nutty depth, and a gentle earthy note. Lightly aged for just a couple of weeks, this cheese is both approachable and full of rustic charm.

A little history:
Legend has it that Chabichou dates back to the 8th century, when the Saracens left goats behind after the Battle of Poitiers. Locals began using their milk to craft cheeses, and the name “Chabichou” comes from the old word cheblis, meaning “goat” in Arabic.
