Fourme d'Ambert, a beloved French blue cheese, has a rich history dating back to the time of the Gaulish druids. Originating in the mountainous regions of Puy-de-Dôme, Le Cantal, and Loire, this cheese is crafted from the milk of cows grazing at high altitudes, giving it a subtle, delicate flavor.

After being poked with holes to facilitate the growth of blue mold, Fourme d'Ambert is aged in cool, damp cellars for a month. Known for its soft texture, Fourme d'Ambert was traditionally a farmhouse cheese. The name "Fourme" derives from the Latin word "forma," meaning "shape," referring to the receptacle used in its production.

Country of origin: France
